IB Chemistry Tutoring
IB Chemistry is demanding — from stoichiometry and organic mechanisms to data-based questions and the Internal Assessment. Our tutors help you master the theory, ace your IA, and build the exam technique that turns 5s into 7s.

What You'll Master in IB Chemistry
Comprehensive coverage of all key topics and skills required for SL and HL success.
Mole concept, balanced equations, limiting reagents, and yield calculations
Electron configuration, ionisation energy, emission spectra, and quantum numbers (HL)
Ionic, covalent, and metallic bonding; VSEPR; intermolecular forces; hybridisation (HL)
Enthalpy changes, Hess's law, Born-Haber cycles (HL), and entropy
Functional groups, reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and synthesis pathways (HL)

Questions.
IB Chemistry covers a broader range of topics than A-Level but in slightly less depth for some areas. The key difference is the Internal Assessment (20% of the grade), which requires students to design and carry out their own experiment. IB also uses specific command terms in exam questions, and the data-based question format in Paper 2 is unique to the IB. Our tutors understand both systems and tailor their approach to the IB assessment style.
The IA requires students to design an original experiment, collect data, process it with appropriate statistical or graphical analysis, evaluate errors and limitations, and reflect on their methodology. Students often struggle with choosing a suitable research question, performing proper error analysis, and writing a focused evaluation. Our tutors have marked IAs as examiners, so they guide students through every criterion systematically.
HL adds significant depth: additional organic chemistry, spectroscopy, energetics (Born-Haber cycles), d-metal chemistry, and more complex calculations. You also sit Paper 3 at HL, which includes option topics. However, with the right support and consistent study, HL Chemistry is manageable. Our tutors assess where your child is and build a plan that addresses HL-specific gaps first.
IB Chemistry exams use specific command terms (explain, deduce, suggest, evaluate) that require precise types of response. Many students lose marks not because they don't know the chemistry, but because they don't answer in the way the mark scheme requires. Our tutors practise exam questions regularly, teach time allocation, and train students to structure answers that hit every mark point.
Absolutely — many of our IB Chemistry students are at international schools across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. All sessions are online, so we work across time zones. We're familiar with the IB Chemistry syllabus globally and can adapt to any school's IA timeline or mock exam schedule.
For most students, one session per week provides solid support for understanding concepts and building exam skills. Students aiming for a 7 or those behind on IA work may benefit from two sessions per week, especially during DP2. We'll recommend the right frequency based on your child's current level and goals during the free consultation.
