An epistemology course exploring how we know what we claim to know. Requires a 1,200–1,600-word essay and a TOK Exhibition of 3 objects. Graded A–E — an E means no diploma.
E grade = no diploma. We make sure that never happens. An independent 4,000-word research essay in an IB-approved subject. Students work with a supervisor across 10–15 hours. Critical Thinking (Criterion C) carries the most marks at 12/34.

Parent & Student Voices
IB families who needed stronger predicted grades and saw measurable outcomes.
My daughter was predicted a 4 in IB Math AA HL and we were seriously worried about her university applications. Her ComboTutors tutor identified the gaps in her calculus understanding within the first session and built a targeted plan. She ended up with a 6 — two grades above her prediction. It genuinely changed her university options.

I was completely lost with my TOK essay — I couldn't figure out how to structure an epistemological argument. My tutor broke it down into manageable steps and helped me develop a strong thesis. I got an A in TOK, which gave me the bonus points I needed for a 40. I couldn't have done it without ComboTutors.

IB Diploma Student, 40/45
We tried two other tutoring services before finding ComboTutors. Neither understood the IB system properly — they kept treating it like A-Levels. Our son's ComboTutors tutor actually sat the IB herself with a 44 and knew exactly how to manage the workload across six subjects plus the Core. His score went from 28 to 36.

The earlier the better — ideally at the start of DP1 when the workload is still manageable. Starting early lets your child build strong foundations, begin Extended Essay and IA topic exploration, and address weaknesses before they compound in DP2. That said, we regularly help students who come to us mid-DP1 or even at the start of DP2 after disappointing mock results. The critical window is before predicted grades are submitted in September–October of DP2, since UK conditional offers depend entirely on those predictions.
Absolutely — this is one of the things that sets us apart. Our IB tutors don't just know the subject content; they understand the IB marking criteria, IA rubrics, command terms, and what examiners are looking for at each grade boundary. Several of our tutors are former or current IB examiners, and all of them sat the IB Diploma themselves. They know the difference between a 5 and a 7 answer, and they teach your child how to bridge that gap.
Yes — and this is where most other tutoring services fall short. We provide dedicated support for all three Core components. For TOK, our tutors help students craft compelling essays and exhibitions that demonstrate genuine epistemological thinking. For the Extended Essay, we guide students from research question development through to the final draft, covering structure, analysis, and academic referencing. For CAS, we help students plan meaningful projects, document their reflections, and ensure all 7 learning outcomes are met.
It depends on your child's current level and target score. For general support and staying on track, one hour per week per subject is usually sufficient. Students aiming for 38+ points typically benefit from 1.5 to 2 hours per week across their most challenging HL subjects, plus dedicated time for IAs and the Extended Essay. During the pre-exam intensive period, we recommend 4–6 hours per day on weekdays. We'll discuss the right balance during your free consultation and adjust as priorities shift across DP1 and DP2.
Yes — this is actually one of the most common reasons parents reach out to us. Research shows that 41.6% of IB students report anxiety during the programme, and the workload of 30–40+ hours per week across six subjects, IAs, the EE, TOK, and CAS is genuinely intense. Our tutors don't just teach content — they help students prioritise, build realistic study schedules, and manage deadlines. Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from reducing overwhelm, not adding more study hours.
Yes — we cover all six IB subject groups plus the three Core components. This includes underserved areas that most tutoring services ignore, such as Visual Arts portfolio development, Theatre performance preparation, Film analysis, and Language B oral skills. We also support less common Group 3 subjects like Global Politics and Philosophy. If your child takes it in the IB, we have a specialist tutor for it.
