Sai Kung's IGCSE cohort is small but distinctive — Hong Kong Academy (HKA) runs IGCSE as a Year 10–11 option ahead of its IB Diploma continuum, while expat families commuting from Clearwater Bay School (ESF) into ESF secondary, and those with siblings at Yew Chung International School (YCIS) Kowloon Tong, sit Cambridge or Edexcel papers. The Sai Kung challenge for IGCSE Mathematics is geography: school finishes late, the minibus or 792M bus back to Sai Kung village or Clear Water Bay can swallow an hour, and weekend hiking, junk-boat and sailing culture eats Saturday revision. Our Sai Kung IGCSE Mathematics tutors run online in HKT around the HKA late-bus schedule, the ESF half-term and the HKUST-adjacent science-fair calendar — so British expat and Korean-American researcher families on Sai Kung peninsula don't trade outdoor weekends for grade-chasing.

Exam boards we cover
IGCSE in Sai Kung is a minority route — Hong Kong Academy (HKA) offers it as a Year 10–11 stepping stone into IB DP, and Clearwater Bay School (ESF) families sit Cambridge or Edexcel papers via ESF secondary. Extended tier is required for any student progressing to A-Level Mathematics.
Used by Edexcel-aligned British curriculum schools in and around Sai Kung. Higher tier broadly comparable to Cambridge Extended, with slightly different question phrasing.
A smaller cohort of Sai Kung students sit Oxford AQA International GCSE — particularly those moving between UK and Hong Kong schools mid-cycle.
Syllabus coverage
Our IGCSE Mathematics tutors cover the full specification with extra depth on the topics where Sai Kung students most consistently lose marks.
Integers, fractions, percentages, surds, indices, standard form and ratio — banked easy marks.
Expanding, factorising, linear and quadratic equations, simultaneous equations and curve sketching.
Straight-line graphs, gradient, midpoint and equations of lines.
2D and 3D shapes, area, volume, circle theorems and Pythagoras — highest-mark Extended theory.
Sine and cosine rules, bearings, angles of elevation and depression.
Column vectors, translations, reflections, rotations and enlargements.
Tree diagrams, Venn diagrams, cumulative frequency, box plots and histograms.
CIE 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 mark-scheme work — how examiners reward working, layout and final answers.

What we fix
How we fix it:HKA runs the full IB DP continuum with IA drafts and EE supervision clustered in Year 12 Term 3 and Year 13 Term 1. We back-plan Mathematics sessions specifically around HKA's IA submission windows and Extended Essay milestones so students aren't fighting Paper 3 content and IA write-up in the same week.
How we fix it:The 792M to Tseung Kwan O, the 92 minibus to Choi Hung MTR or the cross-harbour bus to Central can each take 45–60 minutes — and that's before HKIS Tai Tam. Online 1-to-1 Mathematics lessons in HKT mean Sai Kung students keep the time for hiking, sailing and family dinners rather than spending it on the M+ deck of a KMB bus.
How we fix it:HKUST in adjacent Clear Water Bay is a magnet for HKA, ESF Clearwater Bay School and YCIS Sai Kung-resident families — top-30 global, on the peninsula, hard to ignore. We brief Sai Kung Mathematics students on HKUST's JUPAS and direct-entry expectations and align HL/AP content depth to admissions-grade benchmarks, not just school report grades.
How we fix it:Sai Kung's culture is junk boats, Tai Long Wan hikes, MacLehose Trail weekends and a 7–10-day Lunar New Year shutdown that often lands days before HKA mocks. We protect mock-prep blocks for Mathematics before CNY, then resume timed past-paper work the moment school returns — without asking expat families to give up the outdoor lifestyle they moved to Sai Kung for.
How we fix it:HKA's deliberately small Year 12/13 cohort means fewer classmates to swap HL Mathematics notes with at midnight before an IA deadline. Our tutors act as the missing senior peer — examiner-grade feedback on essay structure, Paper 3 strategy and IA modelling, available in HKT evenings when the HKA Sai Kung campus is closed.
Why Combo Tutors
We are deeply HKA-aware — HL/SL Mathematics tutors who know the PYP–MYP–DP continuum, the IA criteria HKA examiners reward, and how to pace EE supervision around the Sai Kung campus calendar rather than a generic IB World School timetable.
HKUST in Clear Water Bay is the natural STEM destination for many Sai Kung families. Our Mathematics tutors brief students on direct-entry expectations, JUPAS competition and interview style — so HKA and HKIS Tai Tam students walk into HKUST admissions with a calibrated grade target, not guesswork.
Online 1-to-1 Mathematics in HKT means no minibus ride to Causeway Bay for tutoring — and for British, Australian and Korean-American Sai Kung families relocating mid-year, we keep the same tutor across London, Sydney or California time zones so the relationship survives the move.
Mrs Caroline Whitfield
IGCSE Mathematics HL · Hong Kong Academy (HKA) · Sai Kung village · British expat family
Our daughter is at Hong Kong Academy and the small Year 13 cohort meant she had no one to test her HL Mathematics essays against. The tutor was effectively her senior peer — examiner-grade feedback on her IA, paced around HKA's EE deadlines. She walked into the May session calm.
Mr Alistair Reid
IGCSE Mathematics · Clearwater Bay School (ESF) feeding into ESF secondary · Clear Water Bay · Australian expat sailor family
We live in Clear Water Bay, kids at Clearwater Bay School ESF — weekends are sailing at Hebe Haven, no negotiation. Online Mathematics sessions in HKT evenings meant our son kept his junk-boat Saturdays and still pushed his grade up. The tutor knew the ESF scheme cold.
Dr Jennifer Park
IGCSE Mathematics HL · Hong Kong Academy (HKA) · Clear Water Bay · Korean-American HKUST researcher family
I'm at HKUST so HKA is on our doorstep and HKUST is the natural target. The tutor calibrated my son's HL Mathematics to HKUST direct-entry expectations, not just HKA report-card grades. He's in at HKUST Engineering.
Olivia W., HKA Year 13
IGCSE Mathematics HL · Hong Kong Academy (HKA) Sai Kung · Year 13 student
I'm in Year 13 at HKA and the Mathematics IA nearly broke me — small cohort, no one to bounce drafts off after 10pm. My Combo Tutors tutor was online in HKT every Wednesday night through the EE and IA period. I sat the May exam and got my predicted grade.

Parent of IB Student · London
My daughter was struggling with IB Mathematics HL and had almost given up hope of getting a 7. After just two months of weekly sessions with her Combo Tutors tutor, her confidence soared and she went from a predicted 4 to a final grade of 6. The personalised approach made all the difference—her tutor identified exactly where the gaps were and worked through them systematically.
James P.
Parent of A-Level Student · Manchester
My son started tutoring for A-Level Physics about three months before his exams. His tutor was incredibly patient and broke down complex topics like electromagnetic induction into simple, intuitive steps. He ended up getting an A* which we genuinely didn't think was possible. I'd recommend Combo Tutors to any parent who wants a tutor that actually cares about your child's progress.
IGCSE Mathematics in Sai Kung
Hong Kong Academy in Sai Kung runs the full IB continuum — PYP, MYP and IB Diploma — so HKA Mathematics students sit the IGCSE option in Year 10–11 before progressing into IB DP HL or SL. We match the tutor to the exact HKA scheme of work, HL/SL track and IA/EE timeline.
Yes. HKIS Tai Tam is the main AP destination for Sai Kung American expat families, and we run College Board AP Mathematics tutors aligned to HKIS's scheme of work, FRQ style and May exam timing — entirely online in HKT, so families skip the cross-harbour-plus-southside commute.
HKUST in Clear Water Bay is on Sai Kung's doorstep and a top STEM target for HKA, ESF Clearwater Bay School and YCIS-resident families. Our IGCSE Mathematics tutors calibrate HL/AP grade targets to HKUST direct-entry and JUPAS expectations, brief students on interview style, and run past-paper depth to admissions-grade — not just school-report-grade — benchmarks.
Yes — that's exactly why we run online. IGCSE Mathematics sessions schedule in HKT weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons, so MacLehose Trail Saturdays, Tai Long Wan junk trips and Hebe Haven sailing stay untouched. Expat parents tell us the lesson schedule is built around the lifestyle they moved to Sai Kung for, not against it.
Yes — every IGCSE Mathematics tutor aligns to the student's exact Sai Kung-area school (HKA, Clearwater Bay School ESF, Renaissance College ESF, YCIS Kowloon Tong or HKIS Tai Tam), tracks IA/EE deadlines or AP unit pacing, and sends a weekly parent summary in English so British, Australian and Korean-American expat parents stay informed without chasing.
