Ofsted-registered Manchester independents like Manchester Grammar School (MGS), Withington Girls' School (WGS) and Cheadle Hulme School use IGCSE Accounting as the launchpad into A-Level and the IB Diploma at William Hulme's Grammar School (WHGS). MGS sits on Cambridge IGCSE and OCR pathways; WGS runs primarily AQA with Edexcel IGCSE in mathematics-heavy subjects; Cheadle Hulme blends AQA with Cambridge sixth-form feeder content. Across Trafford state grammars — Altrincham Grammar, Stretford Grammar, Sale Grammar — Year 9 entrants arriving via the Trafford 11+ then sit GCSE/IGCSE Accounting two years later under tight setting policies. Our Manchester IGCSE Accounting tutors are matched by exact board code, school scheme of work and Mock Week timing (most independents run their January window the second week of term). Lessons run in UK time around the November and May/June Cambridge/Edexcel sittings.
Tell us what your child needs and we'll match a UK-qualified Accounting specialist in Manchester within 24 hours.
Exam boards we cover
Manchester Grammar School, Cheadle Hulme School and Bolton School all run Cambridge IGCSE as the primary Year 10–11 specification for selected subjects, alongside reformed UK GCSEs. Extended tier is required for any student progressing to A-Level Accounting.
Used by Edexcel-aligned British curriculum schools in and around Manchester. Higher tier broadly comparable to Cambridge Extended, with slightly different question phrasing.
A smaller cohort of Manchester students sit Oxford AQA International GCSE — particularly those moving between UK and United Kingdom schools mid-cycle.
Syllabus coverage
Our IGCSE Accounting tutors cover the full specification with extra depth on the topics where Manchester students most consistently lose marks.

What we fix
How we fix it:Year 5/6 Accounting foundations matter long before A-Level. Trafford's 11+ is one of the toughest selective tests in England, gating Altrincham, Stretford, Sale and Urmston Grammars. We layer Accounting concept work against the September CEM/GL sitting.
How we fix it:Manchester Grammar, Withington and Cheadle Hulme all run Mock Week in early-to-mid January. We back-plan Accounting revision from those exact dates, using each school's released past mock papers and mark schemes.
How we fix it:MGS = AQA/OCR, WGS = AQA/Edexcel, Cheadle Hulme = AQA/CIE, WHGS = AQA + IB. We match a Accounting specialist to the exact board code, not a generalist.
How we fix it:William Hulme's IB candidates have no peer-school IA bank to draw on. We provide Accounting IA scaffolding, EE supervisor-style feedback and TOK linkage tuned to WHGS's submission calendar.
How we fix it:UoM, Manchester Met and Salford pull thousands of local UCAS applicants; Oxbridge layers on STEP/MAT/PAT in January. We sequence Accounting A-Level prep around the Oct 15 Oxbridge deadline and Jan admissions tests.
Why Combo Tutors
We prepare Year 5/6 candidates for the Trafford 11+ in Accounting foundations, then continue through to GCSE/IGCSE setting decisions at Altrincham, Sale, Stretford and Urmston Grammars — one of the few remaining fully selective LEAs in England.
Our top Manchester Accounting tutors are MGS, Withington or Russell Group alumni who've sat the same Oxbridge admissions tests — STEP, MAT, PAT, ESAT, TMUA — that 60+ MGS and WGS leavers face every year. We coach to the AQA/OCR/Cambridge International code your child actually sits.
Whether your child is at William Hulme's on the IB Diploma in Accounting, or moving from MGS/WGS GCSE to Loreto, Aquinas or Xaverian sixth-form colleges, we bridge the curriculum jump — IB IA/EE scaffolding, or A-Level board switch — without re-teaching from scratch.
Mrs Sarah Hodgson
Parent · IGCSE Accounting · Manchester Grammar School (MGS), Manchester
My son was sitting in the middle of his MGS set for Accounting and we knew Mock Week in January would expose gaps. The tutor matched MGS's AQA scheme exactly and by the May IGCSE sitting he was predicted A*.
Mr Imran Patel
Parent · Trafford 11+ → IGCSE Accounting · Altrincham Grammar School for Girls
We were preparing our daughter for the Trafford 11+ and then carried Accounting tuition through to her IGCSE years at Altrincham Grammar. Consistent tutor, consistent results — Oxbridge interview last December.
Dr Anita Mehta
Parent · IGCSE Accounting HL · William Hulme's Grammar School (WHGS)
William Hulme's is the only IB school in Manchester proper and finding Accounting IB DP support locally was impossible. Combo Tutors matched an HL examiner — IA went in on time, predicted 7.
Sarah M.
Parent of IB Student · London
My daughter was struggling with IB Mathematics HL and had almost given up hope of getting a 7. After just two months of weekly sessions with her Combo Tutors tutor, her confidence soared and she went from a predicted 4 to a final grade of 6. The personalised approach made all the difference—her tutor identified exactly where the gaps were and worked through them systematically.
James P.
Parent of A-Level Student · Manchester
My son started tutoring for A-Level Physics about three months before his exams. His tutor was incredibly patient and broke down complex topics like electromagnetic induction into simple, intuitive steps. He ended up getting an A* which we genuinely didn't think was possible. I'd recommend Combo Tutors to any parent who wants a tutor that actually cares about your child's progress.
Priya K.
Parent of GCSE Student · Birmingham
We needed help with GCSE Science for my son who found chemistry particularly challenging. His tutor made the sessions engaging and relatable—using real-world examples that finally made reactions and bonding click for him. He improved by two grades and, more importantly, actually enjoys science now.
IGCSE Accounting in Manchester
MGS predominantly uses AQA and OCR for IGCSE Accounting, with the current qualification and specification for each subject. We match the exact board your son sits — including past papers, examiner reports and MGS's own internal Mock Week material.
Yes. We prepare Year 5 and Year 6 students for the Trafford 11+ (the gateway to Altrincham, Sale, Stretford and Urmston Grammars) and then continue through KS3 and IGCSE Accounting once a place is secured. Bury Grammar and Bolton School entrance tests are also covered.
Yes — WHGS is Manchester's primary IB Diploma school and our IB Accounting tutors are matched to the HL/SL split, IA rubric and EE supervisor expectations. We schedule around WHGS's IA draft deadlines and the May exam session.
We layer IGCSE Accounting work against UCAS (Oct 15 Oxbridge / medicine deadline, Jan 25 general), STEP/MAT/PAT/ESAT/TMUA in January and college interviews in December. Tutors are typically Oxbridge or Russell Group alumni from MGS, WGS, Cheadle Hulme or Bolton School backgrounds.
The three Manchester Catholic sixth-form colleges — Loreto, Aquinas and Xaverian — primarily run AQA and OCR IGCSE Accounting, with Edexcel in selected subjects. We match a tutor to the exact specification each college teaches.
