IGCSE Economics Tutors for Cambridge 0455 & Edexcel 4EC1 in Dubai

Your child revised, but the marks still go on technique: a command word read as "explain" when it asked for "discuss", a definition that is nearly right, a diagram with no axis labels, an answer with no conclusion. We match them with a one-to-one online tutor for their exact board, Cambridge 0455, Edexcel 4EC1 or OxfordAQA 9214. Each lesson starts from a short past-paper diagnostic, then works through past papers marked against the official mark scheme. Lessons run online on UAE time, after school and at weekends.

Why Dubai students

Why IGCSE Economics in Dubai Needs a Specialist Tutor

Economics marks go to application and judgement, not recall, and the exam is moving. From 2027 the Cambridge multiple-choice paper grows to an hour and 40 marks while the structured paper drops to 80. In Dubai, where the UK curriculum is the largest of 17 curricula across 227 private schools, an IGCSE Economics tutor plans around the paper your child will actually sit.

Exam boards we cover

IGCSE Economics boards taught in Dubai

Cambridge IGCSE Economics

0455

Two papers, no Core or Extended tiers. For the 2026 series, Paper 1 is multiple choice (45 minutes, 30 marks) and Paper 2 is structured questions (2 h 15, 90 marks). From 2027 the split changes: Paper 1 becomes 1 hour and 40 marks, Paper 2 two hours and 80 marks. Graded A*–G. See the Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 syllabus.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics (9–1)

0987

The same course reported on the 9–1 scale. Schools enter students for one version, not both, so we confirm the code and the exam year in the free trial.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Economics

4EC1

Graded 9–1, single tier. The linear route is two papers of 80 marks each; Pearson also offers a modular route to international centres. We teach both — share which route the school uses.

OxfordAQA International GCSE Economics

9214

Graded 9–1. Two papers of 1 h 45 and 80 marks each, split by content rather than skill: Paper 1 How Markets Work covers microeconomics, Paper 2 How Economies Work covers government objectives, trade and money.

IGCSE Economics Tutoring for Dubai Students

We teach Year 10 and Year 11 students from Dubai's British and international schools. Tell us the board and the syllabus code on the exam entry and we match a tutor who already teaches that specification.

Lessons are live and one-to-one on UAE time, after school and at weekends, and are re-paced around Ramadan when schools shorten the day. Students moving on can continue with A-Level Economics or IB Economics, and the wider online tutors in Dubai team covers the rest of the timetable.

Syllabus coverage

IGCSE Economics topics covered for Dubai students

Topics follow the Cambridge 0455 syllabus; Edexcel 4EC1 and OxfordAQA 9214 cover the same economics in their own paper splits. Exchange rates, trade and diversification are taught with examples students in the UAE recognise.

Scarcity, choice and factors of production

Our tutors cover the basic economic problem, opportunity cost, the factors of production and how economic systems allocate resources.

Demand, supply and the price mechanism

We go through market equilibrium, shifts and movements, price and income elasticity, and how the price mechanism rations and signals.

Market failure and government intervention

We work on externalities, merit and public goods, taxes, subsidies, regulation and price controls.

Firms, costs and revenue

Lessons cover fixed and variable costs, revenue and profit, economies and diseconomies of scale, and why firms grow.

Money, banking and labour markets

Our tutors cover the role of money and commercial banks, wage determination, trade unions and why earnings differ.

Macroeconomic objectives

We go through economic growth and GDP, inflation and its measurement, unemployment, and the balance of payments.

Fiscal, monetary and supply-side policy

We work on government spending and taxation, interest rates, and supply-side measures — plus their conflicts and trade-offs.

Trade, exchange rates and development

Lessons cover specialisation, protectionism, exchange-rate changes, globalisation and indicators of development.

What we fix

Where IGCSE Economics Students Lose Marks

01

Misreading command words

"Explain", "analyse" and "discuss" ask for different things, and a "discuss" answer that argues one side cannot reach the top marks.

How tutoring helps:Annotate the command word on every question and practise the answer shape each one needs, until the choice is automatic.

02

Definitions that are almost right

Loose definitions of opportunity cost, price elasticity or inflation drop easy marks, and percentage-change and elasticity calculations lose marks on method and units.

How tutoring helps:Learn each definition word for word from the mark scheme, then rehearse calculations with the working shown.

03

Diagrams drawn but never used

Supply-and-demand diagrams arrive without axes, curve labels or the new equilibrium, and the written answer never refers back to them.

How tutoring helps:Draw each core diagram to a checklist, then write the sentence that points at it, because an unused diagram earns almost nothing.

04

Answers with no conclusion

Longer answers stop after the points for and against, so the judgement and evaluation marks are lost.

How tutoring helps:Use a fixed structure: strongest point for, strongest point against, then a judgement saying which matters more and why in that context.

What Dubai Families Say

Reviews from Dubai IGCSE Economics students and parents.

Mariam H.

Parent of IGCSE Student · Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai

My son was struggling with IGCSE Economics, especially market structures, elasticity and longer evaluation questions. His tutor explained the concepts clearly and showed him how to structure answers using the case-study information. After a few weeks, he became much more confident with past papers and school assessments.

Zayan A.

IGCSE Student · Mirdif, Dubai

I needed extra help with IGCSE Economics before my exams, particularly macroeconomics and data-response questions. The tutor focused on exam technique as well as understanding the theory, which made a big difference. I now find it much easier to explain, analyse and evaluate my answers properly.

Common Questions.

Check the school's options booklet, the exam entry or past mock papers: Cambridge papers show 0455 or 0987, Edexcel papers show 4EC1 and OxfordAQA papers show 9214. Tell us the code and we match a tutor who teaches it. To compare boards first, read our guide to online IGCSE tutoring in the UAE.

No. Every candidate sits the same two papers, and grades A* to G are available to all of them. The same is true of Edexcel 4EC1, so there is no tier to choose.

It depends on the exam year. The 2026 series uses a 45-minute, 30-mark multiple-choice paper and a 2 h 15 structured paper worth 90 marks. From 2027, multiple choice grows to an hour and 40 marks while the structured paper drops to two hours and 80 marks. We confirm the entry before planning revision, because the weighting between the two papers shifts.

Cambridge and Edexcel spread micro and macro topics across both papers. OxfordAQA 9214 splits them by content instead: Paper 1 is markets and microeconomics, Paper 2 is the wider economy, trade and money. Revision order changes accordingly.

Year 10 is ideal for building definitions and diagrams. Year 11 students usually start before school mocks, then switch to timed past papers before the May–June exams.

It gives the vocabulary and core diagrams. Students moving to A-Level Economics or the IB Diploma then need deeper analysis and evaluation.

Yes. Market structures and government policy overlap with our IGCSE Business Studies tutors in Dubai, and many students take both subjects.
