Cambridge is the headquarters of Cambridge Assessment International Education — the city literally writes the IGCSE specification. That sets the local bar uncomfortably high. The Perse School and The Stephen Perse Foundation enter pupils for Cambridge IGCSE Economics with progression to A-Level, International A-Level or IB Diploma study; King's College School Cambridge and St John's College School run IGCSE Economics alongside 13+ choristership and Common Entrance to Eton, Winchester and Harrow. The Leys School and St Mary's School Cambridge round out the cohort. Mock weeks land in late January and feed directly into senior-school and IB DP admissions. Our Cambridge IGCSE Economics tutors include current and former CIE and OCR examiners — drilling Extended-tier mark-scheme phrasing, the May/June and November sittings, and the post-IGCSE transition to A-Level, International A-Level or IB Diploma study that defines a Cambridge academic year.
Tell us what your child needs and we'll match a UK-qualified Economics specialist in Cambridge within 24 hours.
Exam boards we cover
The default pre-16 route at The Perse School, The Stephen Perse Foundation, King's College School Cambridge and St John's College School — set by Cambridge Assessment International Education, which is headquartered in the city. Extended tier is required for any student progressing to A-Level Economics.
Used by Edexcel-aligned British curriculum schools in and around Cambridge. Higher tier broadly comparable to Cambridge Extended, with slightly different question phrasing.
A smaller cohort of Cambridge students sit Oxford AQA International GCSE — particularly those moving between UK and United Kingdom schools mid-cycle.

What we fix
How we fix it:Around 25–30% of senior students in Cambridge apply to Oxbridge. We layer Economics sessions against the October 15 UCAS deadline, November admissions tests (TMUA, ESAT, NSAA, PAT), December college interviews at Trinity, King's and St John's, and post-offer STEP I/II/III preparation through January–June.
How we fix it:The Perse School and The Stephen Perse Foundation run mock weeks in late January with results fed directly into predicted grades and Oxbridge references. We back-plan Economics revision blocks against each school's exact paper schedule and examiner.
How we fix it:IB DP candidates at The Stephen Perse Foundation and The Leys School hit IA drafts in Year 12 Term 3 and final EE submission in Year 13 Term 1. We supervise Economics IAs and EEs to IB-criterion standard without crossing the authenticity line.
How we fix it:Hills Road is one of the UK's largest Oxbridge feeders — internal competition for the top Economics grades is brutal. Our examiner-level tutors specialise in the AQA and Edexcel papers Hills Road uses and the STEP/TMUA/ESAT overlay.
Why Combo Tutors
Our Cambridge Economics tutors are matched to the exact route a student is sitting — the student's current sixth-form qualification, AQA A-Level at Hills Road, IB DP at Stephen Perse or The Leys — and to the exact examiner who marks those papers.
For Oxbridge-bound Economics students we layer admissions-test prep (TMUA, ESAT, STEP, NSAA, PAT, MAT) and December college interview practice against schoolwork — not bolted on at the end.
Personal in-home tutors in Cambridge routinely charge £60–100/hour. Our online 1-to-1 Economics tuition with PhD researchers and current examiners starts at £45/hour with the first lesson free.
Mrs Catherine Whittaker
IGCSE Economics · The Perse School, Cambridge
Our son sat Economics at The Perse and was offered a place at Trinity College Cambridge after his December interview. The TMUA and STEP work the tutor did with him from Year 12 made the difference.
Dr James Robertson
IGCSE Economics · The Stephen Perse Foundation, Cambridge
Stephen Perse IB Economics HL with a strong IA and EE — the tutor knew the IB criteria cold and worked around our December Cambridge interview prep at the same time.
Sophie M., Hills Road Year 13
IGCSE Economics · Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge
I was at Hills Road sitting AQA Economics and applying to Cambridge for Natural Sciences. Examiner-level tutoring plus ESAT and NSAA prep got me an A* and an offer.

My daughter was struggling with IB Mathematics HL and had almost given up hope of getting a 7. After just two months of weekly sessions with her Combo Tutors tutor, her confidence soared and she went from a predicted 4 to a final grade of 6. The personalised approach made all the difference—her tutor identified exactly where the gaps were and worked through them systematically.
James P.
Parent of A-Level Student · Manchester
My son started tutoring for A-Level Physics about three months before his exams. His tutor was incredibly patient and broke down complex topics like electromagnetic induction into simple, intuitive steps. He ended up getting an A* which we genuinely didn't think was possible. I'd recommend Combo Tutors to any parent who wants a tutor that actually cares about your child's progress.

We needed help with GCSE Science for my son who found chemistry particularly challenging. His tutor made the sessions engaging and relatable—using real-world examples that finally made reactions and bonding click for him. He improved by two grades and, more importantly, actually enjoys science now.
