Why Dubai students
Which A Level Computer Science Course?
Cambridge 9618, OxfordAQA 9645 and the UK AQA and OCR specifications assess programming in different ways, so the right plan depends on the board. Cambridge ends with a two-and-a-half-hour practical on a computer. See our A Level Computer Science tutoring page for the full course, or IGCSE Computer Science tutors in Dubai for earlier gaps.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Computer Science
9618AS is Paper 1 Theory Fundamentals (1 h 30, 75 marks) and Paper 2 Fundamental Problem-solving and Programming Skills (2 hours, 75 marks, answers in pseudocode). The A Level adds Paper 3 Advanced Theory (1 h 30, 75 marks) and Paper 4 Practical (2 h 30, 75 marks) in Java, Visual Basic or Python on a computer. Staged over two years or taken in one series.
OxfordAQA International AS & A-level Computer Science
9645First exams in 2026. AS has an on-screen procedural programming unit (C#, Python or VB.Net) and a computer systems unit; the A-level adds on-screen object-oriented programming and a written paper that includes functional programming.
AQA 7517 and OCR H446 (UK)
NEAThe UK specifications include a programming project (NEA) worth 20%. Tutors teach the skills and give permitted guidance. They never write assessed code or documentation.
AS or Full A Level: When to Start Tutoring
Year 12 starts in late August or September. If AS is staged it is sat in the June series, and the November series is a resit route. Predicted grades are set in Year 13 autumn for UCAS, so the Year 12 summer is the window to fix gaps.
Lessons are live and one-to-one on UAE time. Most UK computer science degrees ask for A Level Maths, which is general guidance, not a promise: see A Level Maths tutors in Dubai and A Level Physics tutors in Dubai. Find more private tutors across Dubai.

Coverage follows your child's specification, and your tutor follows your board's wording.
Theory fundamentals
Our tutors cover data representation, communication, hardware, processor fundamentals, system software and security.
Problem-solving and programming
We go through algorithms, data types, programming concepts, pseudocode, and file and exception handling.
Advanced theory
We work on floating-point representation, recursion, abstract data types and protocols.
Practical programming
Reading the task, building and testing a program on a computer, and saving evidence.

What we fix
Where A Level Computer Science Students Lose Marks
Code that works in the head, not on paper
A solution is clear to the student, but the pseudocode or program does not show it step by step.
How tutoring helps:Write answers in the form the mark scheme rewards, then trace them by hand.
Off-by-one and boundary errors
Loops and array bounds that run one step too far lose marks in both theory and practical papers.
How tutoring helps:Check first, last and empty cases on every loop before moving on.
Theory learned but not applied
Definitions are known, but exam questions ask students to use them on an unfamiliar scenario.
How tutoring helps:Practise applying each concept to short scenarios, then to past-paper questions.
Paper 4 practical under time pressure
Students lose time reading the task, testing and saving evidence.
How tutoring helps:Rehearse the full practical routine to the clock, from reading to testing to submission.
Paper 3 advanced theory
Floating-point representation, recursion and abstract data types are hard to revise from notes alone.
How tutoring helps:Work each topic through worked examples, then timed questions.
A diagnostic that finds the real gap
A student can write a loop correctly and still not know why it fails on one input, which only shows in a short illustrative diagnostic.
How tutoring helps:The trial lesson uses a short diagnostic to separate missing knowledge from independent application.

Common Questions.
Cambridge allows Java, Visual Basic or Python in Paper 4. We can work in the language you will use in the exam, but it is usually best to stay with the one your school teaches.
Staged AS gives an early result and a carried-forward grade. Taking everything in Year 13 leaves more teaching time. It depends on your school and target grade; the trial can help you decide.
Yes, on UK specifications. Tutors teach skills and give permitted guidance. They never write assessed code or documentation.
Cambridge runs a November series, so a resit is possible. We plan back from the entry date and focus on the papers where marks were lost.
It can be, but many UK computer science degrees ask for A Level Maths. Check the course requirements for your target universities.
