Why the New IB Computer Science Course Needs an Up-to-Date Tutor
The new IB Computer Science guide was first taught in August 2025 and is first examined in May 2027. The old options and HL Paper 3 are gone, replaced by two themes, a pre-seen case study and a computational solution for the IA. What Changed in IB Computer Science (First Exams May 2027)
Options A to D and HL Paper 3 have been removed. The course now has two themes, assessed through two papers and an internal assessment.
Theme A: Concepts of computer science
Paper 1Computer fundamentals, networks, databases and machine learning. Paper 1 assesses Theme A together with a pre-seen case study, for SL and HL.
Theme B: Computational thinking and problem-solving
Paper 2Including programming. Paper 2 is set in two versions, Java or Python, matching the language the school teaches.
Internal assessment: the computational solution
IAA computational solution built over 35 hours. It counts for 30% at SL and 20% at HL.
IA Support, Within IB Rules
Tutors teach and give feedback within the IB's academic integrity policy. They do not write the solution or the documentation, and we tell students so in the first session.
